with NBS

Our mission is to help the construction industry build better, safer and more effectively for the good of everyone.

Working safer, together

2017’s Grenfell Tower fire was a tragedy that should never have happened. As a result of this disaster the construction industry is going through a period of reflection to understand how and why this terrible situation arose, and define systems to prevent such a terrible event ever occurring again.

NBS is committed to playing its part in helping the construction industry adapt and make the essential changes needed for a safer future.

We have always championed the importance of high-quality information for construction projects, and will continue to do so. We believe the use of digital technology is the key enabler to helping the industry improve.

Our mission is to develop knowledge and tools to help the construction industry build better, safer and smarter for the good of everyone.

How we are helping

SUPPORTING THE INDUSTRY

NBS takes an active role in educating and informing the whole construction industry on key issues around building safety, construction product information, digitisation and culture change. We amplify the change agenda heavily through media outreach, and free resources on our website.

INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS

We have partnerships in place with multiple trade organisations and publishers including BSI, the CPA, and the BBA. These relationships enable us to drive collaboration within the industry and help improve best practice around specification and product selection.

WEBINARS

Our webinar programme covers topics including building safety, standards and regulations, construction products, specification, and many more vital subjects. We run 3-4 of these a month, free for all and they are extremely well attended from across the industry.

Chorus

NBS CHORUS

Launched in 2018, Chorus is an advanced construction specification platform. It contains thousands of authored and maintained specification clauses and related technical guidance. These link to the latest standards and regulations to help specifiers improve the quality and accuracy of specifications and reduce risk on projects. Chorus also allows users to manage an audit trail of specification and substitution decisions through the project timeline - this part of the specification is a major requirement of the ‘golden thread’.

nbs-source-tile

NBS SOURCE

Launched in 2020, Source is our manufacturer product data platform. It provides manufacturers with the tools they need to deliver high quality product information directly to specifiers, so they can select appropriate products for their projects. Through the Source platform manufacturers can ensure their information accurate, up-to-date and in line with the relevant standards and regulations.

 Getting started

The construction industry needs to adapt and change quickly in order learn the lessons of the past. With the right culture, processes and tools in place we can keep improving the built environment for everyone and ensure building safety is at the heart of everything we do as an industry. We've included some articles and webinars below to help give you a head-start on adapting to the regulatory changes that are coming or are already here:

Our mission is for our knowledge and tools to help the construction industry build better, safer and more effectively for the good of everyone.
22 September 2020
On 20th July 2020, the Government published the draft Building Safety Bill: the most radical proposed overhaul of building safety regulations for decades. In the wake of Grenfell, much work has been conducted under Dame Judith Hackitt’s leadership to propose a better, safer future for buildings and their occupants, defining responsibilities, and enabling the digital ‘golden thread of information’. Join Paul Swaddle, Head of Technical Solutions at NBS, for our next webinar to explore the draft Bill in more detail and understand what it could mean for specifiers.
05 May 2020
During this webinar we will explore how a fire safety strategy must be integrated from the point at which a building project is identified and continue through to operational stage of a building, providing a ‘golden thread’ of information through the project timeline.

The draft Building Safety Bill takes forward reforms of the building safety system in line with the proposals confirmed in the response to the Building a safer future consultation, published in April 2020.

In response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s 2018 report Building A Safer Future, the Construction Products Association (CPA) established the Marketing Integrity Group (MIG) to address the issues raised, and to stand up to the credibility challenge facing our industry following the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017. The MIG has developed a Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI).
