NBS Binders and Discs

NBS Binders and Discs service is NBS Building clauses and guidance on paper for marking up and word processing. Available in three levels of service, the word processing discs are available on CD ROM in a variety of programs. This system offers fast, accurate production of the specification document, with greatly reduced proof-reading time.

It is for use by specifiers who prefer to work without on-screen guidance.

Updates for NBS Building Binders are provided three times a year. A disc containing new and revised sections is issued automatically to Word Processing Disc subscribers whenever the subscription service Binders are updated.

NBS Building Binders

Used as a reference source or to produce project specifications. They contain the NBS Building clauses arranged in work sections, with guidance notes presented alongside.

NBS Building Binders and Word Processing Discs are usually purchased together, but NBS Building Binders are available separately for those who use the product for reference purposes.

NBS Building Word Processing Discs

Designed as a production tool only, to be used in conjunction with the binders. The discs contain NBS Building clauses, which can be edited and selected on screen to produce the specification document. They do not include the guidance notes, which are essential reading when preparing project specifications. The discs are thus a supplement to the NBS Building Binders Subscription Service and not an alternative.

The NBS Building Word Processing Disc Service provides:

• A compact disc containing the NBS Building specification clauses. Contains only text files – formatted to suit the relevant program. It cannot be used without the appropriate word processing program
• User notes. Recommend procedures for word processing the text to produce job specifications
• Contents list. A list of current work sections
• Disc status list. A history of the issue of work section files.

Word processing disc options

There are three NBS Building Word Processing Disc Services:

• Full, Service
• Abridged Service
• Minor Works Service

Using the NBS Building Binders and Discs to produce specifications

The specifier has the choice of two methods of working; both methods demand continuing reference to the guidance in the binders:

• Print a paper copy of the clauses from the disc, mark up by hand and pass to a computer operator for word processing.
• Edit the text on screen by word processing directly.

NBS Building Word Processing Discs – file format

Each level of service (see NBS Building Scope and Contents) is available on compact disc for a variety of word processing programs popular on Apple Macintosh, MS DOS and Windows-based PCs. The full list is given below.
