British Geological Survey (BGS)
The British Geological Survey has for many years collaborated with architects, local authorities, various heritage bodies, etc., over the usage of building materials. Services available range from the identification and sourcing of natural stones and minerals to the analysis of building bricks, cements, mortars and aggregates. Most of its expertise has been developed from its primary role which is to maintain up-to-date geological maps of the UK land and continental shelf. Its archive of maps and rock and mineral samples is unrivalled in the UK. Enquiries are welcome.
