Church Commissioners
The Church Commissioners are a statutory charity established in 1948 to manage the greater part of the Church of England's centrally held assets to create income for the support of the Church's ministry. They also have a number of administrative and quasi-judicial matters relating to matters of clergy housing, and pastoral reorganisation, and they manage some of the Church's historic buildings. The Commissioner's Architects and Surveyors Department is engaged in the management of historic buildings with the majority of its work consisting of conservation and alteration work to the Bishops' official residences. The Department also provides an advisory service on matters such as clergy housing and church design.
