Joint Industry Board for the Electrical Contracting Industry (JIB)

The JIB was formed in 1968 by the Electrical Contractors' Association and the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union to regulate the relations between employers and employees engaged in the industry. The principal functions of the JIB are the administration of a grading system for operatives, the operation of a disputes machinery that has been exempted from the Statutory Unfair Dismissal Procedure, registration of apprentices, health and safety provisions in the industry and the award of NVQs.
