Open Spaces Society (OSS)
The Open Spaces Society, formally known as the Commons, Open Spaces and Footpaths Preservation Society, was founded in 1865 and is Britain's oldest national conservation body. It campaigns to protect common land, village greens, open spaces and public paths, and everyone's right to enjoy them. The Society advises local authorities and the public, and manages and preserves open spaces which it acquires by gift or purchase. As a registered charity, it relies on voluntary support from subscriptions, donations and legacies.
