Information Paper 11/93 Ecolabelling of building materials and building products, 1993
Building specifiers are demanding more information on the environmental impacts of building materials and products, encouraged in part by a European Community regulation on ecolabelling. Ecolabelling is a complex subject and there are no simple ways of developing criteria for the award of a label.

Information Paper 7/00 Reclamation and recycling of building materials: industry position report, 2000
The construction industry is increasingly committed to lessening its impact on the environment, reducing waste and making better use of unavoidable waste is key to this commitment. Cost, time, availability and quality all affect the use of reclaimed and recycled materials. Much of the responsibility to juggle these issues lies with the demolition, reclamation and recycling industries. The demolition industry provides most of the resource available for reuse and recycling, given sufficient time. The reclamation industry enables the reuse of building materials and components. The recycling industry processes large volumes of materials into raw materials for new applications. These industries are highly specialised and can be identified separately but they can overlap and so become difficult to define.

Ecology of building materials, 2000
This book demonstrates that alternatives to modern building materials are available and that today it is possible to produce building materials and select raw materials from an ecological perspective.
At a time when environmental labelling is becoming increasingly popular and the producers of building materials are urged to be more environmentally aware, it is obviously important to be acquainted with these alternatives.

Publication C513 Reclaimed and recycled construction materials handbook, 1999
This handbook consolidates available knowledge and provides authoritative guidance for designers, specifiers and clients. The first chapters examine why the industry should use reclaimed and recycled materials and discuss ways of overcoming the barriers that designers and specifiers may face in using them. The main part of the book covers the range of materials that can be reclaimed or recycled for construction use and details their properties and performance, sources and availability, current applications, specifications, advantages and constraints, and potential applications.

Environmental costs and benefits of the supply of aggregates: phase 2, 1999
This report sets out the results of a large-scale survey exercise that assesses how much people would be willing to pay to stop the external environmental effects of quarrying for construction aggregates, both in their locality and in landscapes of national importance. The research was mainly undertaken to inform decisions about the regulation and possible taxation of the aggregates industry.

Viridis Publications - Report VR 5 Civil engineering applications of tyres, 2004
Tyres have been used in a number of different applications throughout the world, though potential for their use is just becoming accepted and known in Europe. Tyres have been used in a number of forms of civil engineering applications including; tyre bales for construction, whole tyres for use as landfill cover, tyre shred for use in drainage applications, and tyre crumb for use as aggregate in lightweight cement. This publication reviews potential post consumer tyre uses, the relevant standards and specifications that must be complied with and experience with each application in the UK and elsewhere.
