The Lifetime Home standard is based on 16 design criteria that cover both internal and external features of individual dwellings and also internal and external communal areas of blocks of dwellings.

A dwelling can achieve the Lifetime Home Standard by satisfying the design and specification requirements of all criteria relevant to that property type. All relevant criteria must be satisfied to achieve the standard – a dwelling will either be fully compliant or fail to achieve the standard. There are no levels of intermediate or partial compliance.
