Video: The Regent's Place Pavilion
The Regent's Place Pavilion is one of several public commissions at Regent's Place, a mixed-use estate owned by British Land comprising offices, apartments and retail outlets. Situated between two large office blocks at the western entrance to the estate, the Regent's Place Pavilion, designed by architects Carmody Groarke, is an array of 50 x 50mm stainless steel columns supporting a 3mm steel canopy. With help from architect Kevin Carmody, structural engineers Chris Carroll and Will Whitby of Arup as well as James Danby from British Land, this programme explores the Pavilion as public art, architecture, and engineering, considering the structure as an aesthetic intervention in the public sphere. From a technical viewpoint, it deals with the engineering solutions to potential snow, wind and drag loads.
