Carbon Reduction Commitment – Energy Efficiency Scheme

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has finalised the details for the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme. The legally binding cap and trade scheme is designed to cut carbon dioxide emissions, linked to real estate, by improving energy efficiency. All major landlords, both public and private sector, will be affected. It means that from the 1st April 2010, large energy users will be required to comply with the new rules.

We take a look at the final amendments – which have been welcomed by the industry. Despite the amendments, landlords and tenants are still unclear as to how they can divide the cost of the commitment between them. This programme looks at the outstanding issues and the possible solutions.
