It's widely acknowledged that UK homes are responsible for a large proportion of carbon emissions: hence Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s strategy that all new homes should be zero carbon by the year 2016. To achieve this, the Building Regulations will be amended yet again, in 2010 and 2013.

This programme considers whether this target is realistic and, indeed, if there is such a thing as a zero carbon house. What does it really mean? And what would it be like to live there?
