Video: Building Control Approvals
The Building Regulations England and Wales are administered by local authorities building inspectors and by Approved Inspectors. Approved Inspectors came into existence in 1985 as an alternative delivery model for the approval of dwellings. Initially, they provided an alternative model of dwelling approval to that provided by local authorities' Building Inspectors, but since 1998 they have provided services for all building types, and in 1999, the Construction Industry Council (the CIC, based at the Building Centre in London), became responsible for the approval of all Approved Inspectors.
This programme looks at the roles and responsibilities of Approved Inspectors, how they differ from Building Control Officers, and the relative benefits of each. It also explores upcoming changes to Building Regulations Approved Documents with special insight into what will be included in Parts L: Energy Conservation and G: Hygiene (the latter concerned with water saving measures).
