Abstract

The object of this standard is to define safety rules related to passenger and goods/passenger-lifts with a view to safeguarding persons and objects against the risk of accidents associated with the user-maintenance and emergency operation of lifts.

Document History

Supersedes BS 5655-2:1988. Amendment 10810 is Corrigendum No.1 dated March 2000. Amendment 15795 dated March 2006. Replaces BS 5655-2:1988 which remains current until implementation of the EU Lift Directive. Until 1 July 1999 new lift installations can conform to either this British Standard or to BS 5655-2:1988. After 1 July 1999 BS 5655-2:1988, together with BS 5655-12:1989 will apply only for modernisation of existing lift installations and this standard will apply to all new installations.
