Abstract
Comprises a letter to local authorities regarding the problems some developers are experiencing bringing schemes forward within the standard 3-year permission period. It reminds local authorities of the discretion they have under section 91 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 to grant planning permission for any other period which they consider to be appropriate, having regard to the provisions of the development plan and to any other material considerations. In the current uncertain economic conditions, local planning authorities may wish to consider the advisability, in individual cases, of granting permissions with a longer duration.
