Abstract
Details the research carried out over a two year period in two hospitals: Middlesbrough General Hospital and the James Cook University Hospital, also in Middlesbrough. Compares accommodation before and after the move into a new building developed from a pre-existing hospital. Addresses how the design brief was developed, what its main principles were, how far these were realised according to patients, visitors and staff, whether they judged the new accommodation an improvement, and the impact of the artwork.
