Abstract

Examines the practicality of reinventing neighbourhoods.Presents the findings of a world-wide review of eco villages and sustainable neighbourhoods, demonstrating what is possible. Such projects are rare, and the main part of the book is focused on the ordinary localities in which people live, looking at the changing nature and role of local place communities, at the technologies (of energy, food, water, movement) which help close local resource loops, and at the potential for subsidarity in decision-making down to the local level.
