Definition of the term 'gypsies and travellers' for the purposes of the Housing Act 2004 - consultation

Publication Year

2006

Document Status

Withdrawn

Abstract

Invites views on a proposed definition of 'gypsies and travellers' to apply to regulations issued by ODPM under sections 225 and 226 of the Housing Act 2004. The proposed definition builds on the 'planning definition' as set out in the ODPM Circular 01/2006: planning for gypsy and traveller caravan sites and extends this to capture a wider group whose accommodation needs have often been overlooked.

Document History

Consultation closed on 28 April 2006. To be read with Definition of the term ‘gypsies and travellers’ for the purposes of the housing act 2004 - final regulatory impact assessment and Guide to effective use of enforcement powers - part 2: unauthorised development of caravan sites (both DCLG, 2007); Local authorities and gypsies and travellers - guide to responsibilities and powers; Guide to effective use of enforcement powers - part 1: unauthorised campments; Gypsy and traveller accommodation assessments - draft practice guidance; and ODPM Circular 01/2006: Planning for gypsy and traveller caravan sites (all ODPM, 2006).
