Constructing Excellence National Awards Project of the Year 2014

November 2014

NBS was delighted to be supporting Constructing Excellence National Awards for the first time this year as headline sponsors – and even more so to be presenting the prestigious Project of the Year Award.

The team at Constructing Excellence pulled off a fabulous evening, celebrating the best in English and Welsh construction achievement.

NBS is currently working on the NBS BIM Toolkit externallink for the BIM Task Group to support the achievement of Level 2 BIM. Given that this free-to-use set of resources will benefit all projects in the UK from the spring of 2015, it seems even more appropriate to be sponsoring and presenting the Project of the Year Award.

The judges of this category had a particularly hard time identifying a clear winner. All of the shortlisted projects should be acknowledged for their outstanding efforts. Due to the outstanding entries it was agreed a Highly Commended Award should be given in addition to an overall winner.

The Highly Commended Award went to Project 4Delivery, Southern Water, Mott MacDonald, Turner & Townsend, Halcrow, Enpure, Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, Andritz, Plasticon, Bourne Steel, Prater, Land & Marine, Westminster Dredging for Cleaner Seas for Sussex.

The judges felt this project was a fantastic scheme that is an exemplar on how to turn objectors into supporters. A technically complicated scheme with both environmental and social challenges, the result is outstanding. The project team delivered a superb H&S award winning record with this particular project. They delivered a scheme of an extremely high quality on budget.

Winner of the Project of the Year Award 2014 went to Carillion PLC, Birmingham City Council, Mecanoo Architecten, TPS, Buro Happold, Capita, EMCOR Engineering Services, A J Morrisroe & Sons Ltd, Lindner Facades Ltd and Birmingham Repertory Theatre for the Library of Birmingham.

Project of the Year 2014: Library of Birmingham

The winning project was built in a busy city centre. It was delivered on time, under cost and to the clients & community high expectations. The judges felt this particular project showed great innovative design and believe it is a remarkable building in the region. The supply chain and project team integration was outstanding from the beginning their commitment to Health & Safety was second to none.

Congratulations to our Project of the Year winners and, indeed, all the other award winners, commended projects and finalists. Thanks also to the team at Constructing Excellence for their tireless work in supporting the industry and showcasing best practice.
