Digital Construction Week draws to a close this evening after a packed three day programme that aimed to demonstrate how digital technologies are changing the face of the entire architecture, engineering and construction industries.

Proceedings kicked off on Tuesday evening (20 October) as invited guests heard from David Philp from the BIM Task Group and David Hancock, Head of Construction Team at the Cabinet Office, about the Government’s plans for delivering Level 2 BIM in advance of the 2016 deadline.

On Wednesday delegates flocked to London’s Business Design Centre to take in the first day of a packed conference and exhibition programme. David Philp again opened the event by widening horizons beyond BIM ahead of a panel discussion exploring the effects of the digital revolution across the construction industry.

First day highlights included a look at smart components, how to foster a culture of digital enlightenment across your business, and a look at the skills needed to deliver a digital built Britain both now and in the years to come.

The exhibition also proved to be a hit as delegates swarmed to get to grips with the latest innovations including virtual reality, robotics, wearables and scanning technologies.

Today the conference programme explores the realities of BIM adoption, some innovative thinking around open source design – Alastair Parvin’s WikiHouse – and what’s been described as ‘quite possibly the smartest office space ever constructed’.

Keynote speeches will come from Steve Jolley, Senior Director of Construction at Bentley Systems and Andrew McNaughton, Technical Director at HS2. Steve will be looking at how the next level of project delivery will be achieved through digital construction, Andrew at how one of the largest infrastructure projects in UK history will be delivered.

For those in commuting distance, and time to spare, tickets are available on the door today priced at £20 or can still be registered in advance via digitalconstructionweek.com/FREE+TICKETS.

Tonight sees The Digital Construction Awards at the Emirates Stadium which will celebrate best practice in technology, innovation and BIM from across the built environment.
