The revised versions of Approved Document K and P come into force in April 2013. These documents have been rewritten, simplified and remodelled to Plain English standards and incorporate several new items.

This programme will explain the changes and examine several of the new diagrams and explain slight shifts in technical guidance. It will also clarify the intentions behind the changes. We will look at some common misconceptions and failures in compliance with regard to these two Approved Documents.

This programme sits alongside the launch of these documents published by NBS.

Key learning points:

  • Explains the changes and the reason for the changes… and when they come into force
  • Explains the changing role of the Building Control Officer or Approved Inspector under the new guidance, in relation to certification and Third Party responsibilities
  • Looks at some of the key technical changes and the amendments to (some of) the diagrams
  • Points out the merging of the ADs where AD N, for example, will be phased out in April 2013
  • Refers to some other changes in guidance impinging on these Approved Documents
