Are you ready for the Digital Switchover? – BIM conference update
Following on from the success of the NBS BIM Roundtable held in May, the joint NLA-NBS conference BIM – Are you ready for the digital switchover?, held on 16 September, has provided a timely opportunity for construction professionals to hear the latest thinking on BIM.
Basking in a summer of Government backing, BIM remains one of the hottest topics concerning the industry as it strives to cut costs, increase efficiencies and protect profits.
The conference, held at NLA's headquarters at The Building Centre in Central London, brought together an expert and influential panel of speakers, with representatives from Balfour Beatty, HOK, Asda, Turner and Townsend and The BIM Academy.
NBS Head of BIM Dr Stephen Hamil also spoke, and his presentation is now available for download (PDF document). In it, he draws comparison between BIM functionality in the CAD world and the specification world.

He discusses the COBie data format that can generated from both the CAD and spec models, and finally he calls on the industry to replace the big boxes of paper drawings and documentation with rich, usable digital models.
RIBA Enterprises CEO Richard Waterhouse chairs the event and gives some more taster information on both NBS Create and the National BIM Library, and explained how NBS is embracing BIM.
