Video: London Housing Design Guide

The Mayor of London's office has just published the London Housing Design Guide. Although this edition will be finalised in 2011, it still provides an insight into the direction in housing policy and this programme explores its key features. With new minimum space standards as the central focus of the Design Guide, the programme provides a brief history of space standards in planning debates – including Parker Morris – and outlines the new minimum standards in line with the Code for Sustainable Homes.

The Design Guide speaks of 'appropriate' housing density, provision of external recreation spaces and privacy between dwellings. The programme also clarifies the relationship of the Guide to other design standards, such as those set down by the Homes and Communities Agency.
