Video: Reiach and Hall's Dundee Civic Offices
The council's original office building, the bleak 1960s "Tayside House", will be demolished as part of Dundee's £70 million, 30 year, Central Waterfront Development. For this programme, unique access was gained to the construction site, to speak to the architect about its urban integration and value-engineering, and the fire consultant to speak of a new, reasonably untried fire engineering solution.
Key learning:
- Fire engineering generally
- Value-engineering
- Hand-made brick specification
- The formation of urban space and regenerating derelict urban spaces
- Glazing and sprinkler systems (explaining relatively novel system of glass washing)
- Exploring ventilation systems, natural flows powered ventilation systems and the fire engineering of voids through compartments.
