Video: BREEAM 2011
On 1 July 2011, a new version of BREEAM was introduced, called "BREEAM New Construction" for schemes in the UK. For projects abroad, a separate "BREEAM International Bespoke" method should be used, specifically in countries where there is no alternative or appropriate national system of assessment. And "BREEAM Gulf" has been withdrawn.
This programme explores the key drivers for and changes in the new document compared to the 2008 version.
Key learning
- Some of the key variations in the new version compared to the 2008 version
- The new benchmarks and assessment methodology for energy efficiency and operational carbon emissions, in advance of the government ‘road-map’ to energy efficient, zero carbon and ‘carbon negative’ buildings
- A comparison between BREEAM and LEED
- New updated benchmarks for construction waste and water consumption
- Explanation about some of the new standards on sustainable procurement and post-construction operational after-care.
