Towards 2020 - The UK's Low Carbon Transition Plan

Published in July 2009, the Low Carbon Transition Plan sets out how the Government plans to meet its binding carbon budget of a 34% cut in carbon emissions on 1990 levels by 2020.

The driving force for the Plan is 2008's Climate Change Act, which set out a series of five-year carbon budgets to ensure that the UK remains on track to achieve its goal throughout the transition to a low-carbon future.

This programme highlights some of the main changes taking place in power supply, waste, homes and workplaces, and transport.

Main contributors: Richard Buckingham (Director of Sustainability, BDP), Dave Cheshire (Regional Director, AECOM Sustainable Development Group), Tony Iles (Atkins Environment and Sustainability team).
