Bills of quantities

This module will be developed at a later date.

The preparation and use of bills of quantities are widely taught in the UK, mostly as a component of BSc degrees in quantity surveying, though the subject features in many other courses, and diplomas and masters degrees are also available. Courses in civil or highways engineering and building services engineering often cover compilation of specialist bills for these sectors.

Several software manufacturers produce applications which enable the production of bills of quantities, some in conjunction with CAD packages.

Relevant websites, though not including much introductory material, include:

  • Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
  • Building Cost Information Service (BCIS).
  • Association of Cost Engineers (ACostE).
  • Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
