Video: Sound resistance in residential buildings
Adequate resistance to the passage of sound in residential buildings is required. This programme focuses on meeting the requirements of Approved Document E, requirement E1. There are two ways to comply: either through testing the completed building to demonstrate that the requirements have been met (pre-completion testing) or, in some cases, through the use of 'Robust Details'.
The programme explores the differences between the methods and explains how they are used. An expert from Robust Details Limited explains the scheme and how it works. An acoustician brings his knowledge of testing and how to develop suitable details to ensure a sound-resistant structure.
