Abstract

Provides guidance on the determination of natural wind actions for the structural design of building and civil engineering works for each of the loaded areas under consideration. Applies to buildings and civil engineering works with heights up to 200m and bridges having no span greater than 200m, provided that they satisfy the criteria for dynamic response.

Document History

This document is considered to be a first generation Eurocode and is the applicable standard for building and civil engineering works constructed in the UK. A period now exists to prepare for the transition between first and second generation Eurocodes. First generation Eurocodes will be withdrawn by BSI on 30 March 2028 and will be replaced by second generation Eurocodes. Supersedes BS 6399-2:1997, BS 5400-2:1978 and BS EN 1991-1-4:2005. Amendment dated 31 December 2009 - Implementation of CEN corrigendum July 2009. Amendment dated 31 August 2010 - Implementation of CEN corrigendum January 2010. Amendment dated 31 January 2011 - Implementation of CEN amendment A1:2010. Where a normative part of this EN allows for a choice to be made at the national level, the range and possible choice will be given in the normative text, and a note will qualify it as a Nationally Determined Parameter (NDP). NDPs can be a specific value for a factor, a specific level or class, a particular method of a particular application rule if several are proposed in the EN. To enable EN 1991-1-4 to be used in the UK, the NDPs have now been published in a National Annex.
