Abstract
Describes both the standard absorption cooling and heating units available and new concepts that are evolving. Absorption units offer several advantages. They reduce the use of CFC refrigerants and eliminate concerns about lubricants in refrigerants. In addition, particularly with direct-fired systems, they level the demand for natural gas year-round, which promotes efficient maintenance of pipeline systems and lowers costs.
