Abstract
The theory of wood preservation is simple. Firstly draw up a list of the ideal properties of a preservative, then formulate a product using chemicals known to give the desired properties, and finally impart those properties into, or onto, the timber. However, there are significant difficulties in combining suitable substances into a stable, safe and cost-effective formulation. This sheet outlines the types of safe chemicals and processes available.
Document History
2005 edition. Supersedes the 1991 first edition, Wood preservation - a general background: Part 2 - chemicals and processes.
