RIBA Enterprises seeks North East architect for major redevelopment of its Newcastle premises

Press Release
26 June 2014

RIBA Enterprises, the knowledge arm of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is seeking a North East based architect to redevelop its current premises in central Newcastle.

Plans for the major expansion were announced last month after RIBA Enterprises purchased the freehold of its current premises, the grade II listed Old Post Office and a number of surrounding buildings.

The plan will comprise a combination of refurbishment, extension and some new building. In addition to offices for RIBA Enterprises, which currently employs 250 people of which 160 are based in Newcastle, the vision for the development includes the creation of an architecture gallery and other facilities to host industry and public events, such as a lecture theatre and social areas.

With the rapid rise of BIM, we are seeing the construction industry undergoing huge change and we have invested significantly in technology and knowledge to support this. We are expecting further major growth and now need to invest in our facilities.
We want our site to become a centre for architecture and construction in the north-east and to play a pivotal role in the ‘BIM hub’ which has seen the region spearhead development of expertise in BIM. We are committed to providing fantastic facilities for our staff to support our ambition to become one of the region’s best employers.
Richard Waterhouse, Chief Executive,RIBA Enterprises

The Preliminary Briefing Paper and Entry Form are available on the RIBA Competitions website: [Link no longer active]

The deadline for receipt of Expressions of Interest is 2pm, 9 July 2014.
