Oct 22, 2026 |2 Minute Read

For architects and specifiers, flooring details can have a significant impact on the safety, accessibility, durability and overall performance of a building. Yet the technical considerations surrounding stairways, floor transitions, and floor finishes are not always straightforward.

That is why Quantum Flooring Accessories provides RIBA Core Curriculum CPD designed to give architects practical, relevant knowledge that can be applied directly to projects.

Whether you prefer to attend remotely or in person, Quantum’s CPD programme makes it easy for practices to build valuable professional knowledge while exploring the latest considerations around safe stair design and flooring details.

CPD that fits around your practice

Quantum delivers its RIBA CPD sessions in a range of formats, including live online sessions, pre-recorded, and face-to-face presentations within architectural practices.

Remote, online session can support practices working across various locations, while face-to-face CPDs, provide direct access to Quantum’s technical experts who can field project specific questions and explore relevant product samples.

Sessions typically last around 40–50 minutes, including time for questions and answers, with attendees receiving a CPD certificate on completion.

Relevant and practical knowledge

Quantum’s CPD programme focuses on the issues architects and specifiers encounter when developing detailed, compliant and accessible flooring and stair specifications.

Current sessions include:

  • Step on It: Stairway Safety; and
  • Detailing Floor Finishes – Specification and Detailing Essentials for Stairs, Ramps and Transitions in Floor Finishes.

Topics cover legislation and industry standards, best practice, accessibility, safe stairways and how to specify appropriate flooring accessories.

Sessions cover the practical considerations involved in flooring specification, including the selection of appropriate stair nosings and to dealing with transitions and critical junctions.

The sessions are designed to encourage discussion, giving architects the opportunity to raise questions and consider how the principles covered relate to their own projects.

Feedback from architects and designers

Recent feedback from Quantum’s CPD sessions provides insight into how attendees have responded to the content and its relevance to their work.

Attendees have described the sessions as “clear, engaging and informative”, “very useful and relevant” and “really helpful”. One attendee said they would incorporate the detailing principles covered into future projects, while another highlighted the value of understanding Equality Act and BS 8300 requirements.

With CPD requiring time away from project work, Quantum’s sessions focus on providing practical knowledge that attendees can take back into their day-to-day work and apply directly to specification decisions.
