Abstract
Selldorf Architects has reconfigured the Sainsbury Wing of the National Gallery, originally designed by Venturi, Scott Brown, as part of the NG200 programme to enhance accessibility and visitor experience. This first-phase renovation retains listed heritage features while introducing daylight-filled spaces, improved circulation, and new public amenities. The intervention aims to balance Postmodern sensibility with contemporary functional and sustainability standards, achieving a predicted BREEAM Excellent rating and a 29% reduction in baseline embodied carbon. Includes: Project data, Architect’s view, Engineer’s view, Heritage architect’s view, Client’s view, Sustainability data, Working detail. Architects: Selldorf Architects with Purcell.
