Abstract
The NRA Guidelines on traffic calming for towns and villages on national routes were published in 1999 and will contribute to a national uniformity of design for traffic calming schemes. In the period 1993 to 1996, 21 such schemes were completed on National Roads. Sufficient time has elapsed to assess the success of these schemes, particularly in the field of accident reduction. This report presents an evaluation of effectiveness for the schemes concerned, and has been undertaken by the National Roads Authority.
