Good Concrete Guide 7 Foamed concrete: application and specification

Publication Year

2009

Document Status

Current

Abstract

Use of foamed concrete (or cellular lightweight concrete) in projects has notably been on the increase since the 1980s, taking advantage of its lightweight, free flowing, good thermal insulation and frost resistant properties, it does not require compaction and can be pumped both vertically and horizontally. This good concrete guide explores various applications and includes case studies, such as trench reinstatement, void filling, road bases, lateral load reduction, slope stabilisation, foundations and binding, roof slopes, floor levelling, sports fields and athletic tracks, shock-absorbing concrete (SACON), blocks and panels and in-situ construction. Also covers composition, production, operation, properties and quality control. A model specification is given in an appendix.
