Advisory Desk Note 541 Imposed roof loads in combination with PV

Abstract

This SCI Advisory Note addresses design considerations for the fire resistance of composite slabs with profiled steel sheeting, focusing on achieving a fire rating of 30 minutes or more. It explains the required effective thickness of insulation material to prevent sheet buckling during fire exposure, referencing EN 1994-1-2. The note clarifies the conditions under which partial insulation may suffice and advises caution with configurations where reinforcement is limited to mesh alone. It highlights that reinforcement position, concrete cover, and detailing all influence slab performance in fire, encouraging designers to verify assumptions with test evidence or robust calculation methods.
