Abstract

The AJ Student Prize 2025 showcases a vibrant and diverse array of architectural projects that reflect a growing emphasis on real-world engagement, ethical responsibility, and imaginative design. Informed by pressing societal challenges including the climate emergency, housing crisis, and the evolving role of architectural education, students across the UK have responded with proposals that integrate sustainability, inclusivity, and adaptive reuse. The entries reveal a shift in pedagogy, influenced by the Grenfell report and ARB reforms, prompting schools to embed safety, regulation, and social equity into their curricula. From ecological sanctuaries and civic hubs to speculative futures and community-driven retrofits, the projects demonstrate a commitment to architecture as a tool for transformation, resilience, and hope in uncertain times.
