Abstract
This report explores planning, evaluation, and collaborative approaches for implementing blue–green infrastructure (BGI) in urban environments. It examines stakeholder engagement through Learning and Action Alliances (LAAs), community perceptions, and strategies for fostering co-ownership and long-term maintenance. Key themes include addressing socio-political and physical science uncertainties, overcoming barriers to adoption, and visualising multiple benefits of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) using GIS-based tools. Drawing on case studies from Newcastle (UK) and Portland (USA), the guide provides practical insights for integrating BGI into urban planning to deliver flood resilience, biodiversity, amenity, and wider ecosystem services.
