Discusses the advantages of having good knowledge of building assets and how this can assist in them being maintained more efficiently and economically. Areas covered include the value of asset data, steps in carrying out a condition survey, non-destructive testing techniques and grading systems.

Supersedes BG 35/2012 'Condition surveys and asset data capture' (BSRIA, 2012). Amended 24 April 2012, details are as follows: on page 13, section 2.9 Compliance with legal and health and safety requirements, the text "Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999" should read "Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002". Information relating to this amendment is given on the amendments and corrections page on the BSRIA Bookshop website. Dated January 2012. Replaces AG 4/2000 - Condition survey of building services.
