Abstract

To enable effective implementation, planning, design, construction and maintenance of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) within new and existing developments. Explores good SuDS design and covers the factors to be considered in designing for water, amenity and biodiversity. Takes a look at the processes involved with SuDS design, focussing on specific site conditions, roads and highways and the urban environment. Provides technical detail for individual SuDS components, including: rainwater harvesting, green roofs, infiltration systems, treatment systems, filter strips and filter drains, swales, bioretention, trees, pervious pavements, attenuation storage tanks, detention basins, ponds and wetlands. Also considers calculating hydraulic requirements, limiting pollution and managing water quality, construction and maintenance, community engagement, costs and health and safety.
