Delivering mixed communities - learning the lessons from existing programmes

Publication Year

2009

Document Status

Abstract

Encompasses in-depth work across 10 different estate and area-based transformation programmes, resulting from the Mixed Communities Initiative (MCI), a comprehensive approach to tackling area disadvantage, bringing together housing and neighbourhood renewal strategies to reduce concentrations of deprivation, stimulate economic development and improve public services. The study explores how existing programmes were potentially delivering more mixed communities, with a view to highlighting transferable lessons and highlighting any policy issues.

Document History

To be read with Evaluation of the mixed communities initiative demonstration project - initial report: baseline and early process issues (DCLG, 2009); Mixed communities - evidence review; and Evaluation of the mixed communities initiative demonstration projects - final report (both DCLG, 2010); Sustainable communities: people, places and prosperity: a five year plan from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and People, places and prosperity: case studies (both ODPM, 2005). A summary of this report is also available on The Construction Information Service - Housing Research Summary 242: Delivering mixed communities - learning the lessons from existing programmes (DCLG, 2009).
