Consultation on improving public participation provisions in environmental impact assessment regulations for energy infrastructure

Abstract

Seeks comments from developers and others on revised requirements relating to the environmental impact assessment of projects. Revisions to environmental impact assessment requirements have arisen on a European wide basis as a result of the Commission Directive 2003/35/EC, the 'Public Participation' or 'Aarhus' Directive. This consultation also covers proposed changes to a number of regimes administered by the Department of Trade and Industry, namely those covering power stations and overhead lines, gas transporter pipelines and commercial pipelines.
