Publication Year

2000

Document Status

Withdrawn

Abstract

Air quality monitoring and assessment in Ireland are undergoing a major change of focus. Smog associated with residential coal burning has been eliminated. The potential for damage to human health and the environment due to emissions of gases such as sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides from industry and power generation is also being reduced through fuel switching, integrated pollution control and other measures. Concentrations of lead in air are well within existing and proposed limits, following the phasing out of leaded petrol.
