Ireland's Environment: a millennium report. Chapter 13 - Irelands environment: the main issues

Publication Year

2000

Document Status

Withdrawn

Abstract

The main environmental issues in Ireland are eutrophication of inland waters, the increase in the amounts of waste, the deterioration of the urban environment and allied transport problems and the need to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. Depletion of natural resources is a further matter of concern. However, the scale of the problems here is still moderate and, in general, the quality of the Irish environment remains relatively good and compares favourably with that of other EU States.
