Abstract

Examines the benefits provided by woodlands and trees using the ecosystem services approach. Briefly outlines the ecosystems services paradigm and its terminology, discussing the outcomes of applying this to woodlands and trees which include affects on: water resources, air quality, climate, recreation, physical and mental health, biodiversity, trees and woodlands on farms, plant (tree) health and urban trees. Also covers issues arising from gains and losses; integrated assessment and decision-making tools; and natural capital accounting.
