Abstract

Looks at the opportunities for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) to improve the urban environment, particularly in addressing the need for adaptation responses to climate change. Covers: the drivers for change in promoting the use of SuDS in urban environments; SuDS and ecosystem services; green infrastructure; linking 'blue' infrastructure to green infrastructure; Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD); masterplanning for SuDS; retrofitting SuDS into existing development and in highways; and the importance of local authorities working in close partnerships with all stakeholders in achieving effective urban water management.
