Publication Year

2020

Document Status

Current

Abstract

Sets out the government's aim to increase resilience to flooding and coastal erosion, based around five policy areas: upgrading and expanding national flood defences and infrastructure; managing the flow of water more effectively; harnessing the power of nature to reduce flood and coastal erosion risk and achieve multiple benefits; better preparing communities; and enabling more resilient places through a catchment-based approach.

Document History

Revision - Minor changes to the text under the 'Opportunities for economic prosperity and a clean, resilient economic recovery' heading. Supersedes Flood and coastal erosion risk management - policy statement (HM Government, 2020); and Understanding the risks, empowering communities, building resilience - the national flood and coastal erosion risk management strategy for England (includes correction added September 2011) (DEFRA, 2011).
