Abstract

Details are given of the principles of escape routes and fire precaution which should be applied only to existing buildings requiring a fire certificate. Information is given on legislation in effect, the standards of fire precaution and issues to be considered during fire certification. Details are given for the building types requiring certification; certification procedure; exemptions; prohibition notices; offences and rights of appeal. The requirements for fire resistance, assessment of risk, means of escape, warnings and fire detection, fire fighting, precaution and training, are also covered.
