Abstract

Covers the use of structural softwood timber in building. Specifies values for permissible stresses and moduli of elasticity for different strength classes, for the purposes of the structural design of timber members. Also specifies the species and visual strength grade of timber for the various strength classes. Gives information on the requirements for floor and ceiling joists, rafters, studdings and purlins and, for these members, permissible span tables are given which specify the maximum spans for specified loadings, cross-sectional sizes and strength classes. Also covers the moisture content requirements of timber.
