Abstract

Sets out the Government's national policies on land use planning in the rural areas of England, including country towns and villages and the wider, largely undeveloped countryside up to the fringes of larger urban areas.

Document History

Replaces PPG 7: Countryside - environmental quality and economic and social development (DOE, 1997) (with the exception of one annex in PPG7, on permitted development rights for agriculture and forestry). Partially superseded (the economic development sections only) by Planning policy statement 4: planning for sustainable economic growth (DCLG, 2009). Superseded by National planning policy framework (DCLG, 2012).
